Weekend Sunshine!
After wrapping up Week One of the tart and cookie unit, I decided to take my bicycle for the second South Bay adventure. My parents (whoop whoop!) were awesome and picked me up a book on bicycle rides around the South Bay area, so I threw on the spandex, filled up the water bottle, hoisted the bike on the back of the car, and headed off to Morgan Hill, a tiny little town halfway between San Jose and Gilroy (garlic capital of America!). And boy oh boy was it stunning. The book recommends doing this ride in the springtime, but the distance and intensity sounded like what I was feeling up to, so I went ahead and rode anyways. But I can imagine that in springtime, it's the most beautiful landscape in America. You begin in town, and climb up into the mountains, where you ride a loop, along a small, mountain rode. In fact, I think I saw more cyclists than cars. Along this quiet, serene mountain road, nearly every plot of land is dedicated to growing, and the ability to create beautiful produce here in the Silicon Valley. The rolling hills are sparsely patched with gorgeous old Californian houses, with exquisite landscaping, and ornate vineyards and orchards. The grapevines in nice rows, and Meyer Lemons trees bursting with fruit could not have made for a more wonderful ride. And the houses! They were not gaudy in the slightest, (which is rare, here), and the colors reflected the Earth - terra cotta red, golden tans, brick, and a wonderful sort of forest and sage green. Then, to top it off, this loop begins to surround a reservoir, nestled in the red mountains. For this Colorado girl, I thought I had died and gone to cycling Heaven. Just wonderful.
